The Basilica di Santa Croce in Lecce, Italy was founded by Walter VI of Brienne, using among other materials, stone from the houses of Jews who were ousted from the city in 1510. The Basilica took two centuries to complete. It has a highly decorative façade, with six smooth columns supporting a structure carved with animals, vegetables and grotesques. The church has a large rose window and it built on the Latin cross plan.
