The Battistero Paleocristiano lies beneath the Duomo in Milan in Italy. It is the ruins of an Early Christian Christian baptistery going back to the 4th century. The excavations include the relics of some old cathedrals as well.

Also known as the Milan Baptistery, the Battistero Paleocristiano is a great example of an old octagonal baptistery and is almost surely where St. Augustine was baptized by the Bishop of Milan, St. Ambrose.

At the baptismal font you will also find remaining bits of inscription, fresco, mosaic and some oil lamps and other artifacts.

Other places to see in Milan include the Abbazia di Monluè, an abbey from the 18th Century. The original church was constructed in 1267 although it was changed later and even restored. Within the grounds, you will see a beautiful garden called Wolf Mountain or Mons Luparium because of the wolves that used to live around there then.

The Basilica di S. Ambrogio is Milan’s symbolic church constructed in 379AD on the tombs of St. Protasio and St. Gervasio. The presbytery and the cloisters designed by Bramante are to be admired as also is the Romanesque façade typical of the architecture during the Lombard period. Volvino’s ciborium is found here on the gold altar.

Another must-see is the Casa del Manzoni overlooking the Piazza Belgiojoso. Alessandro Manzoni lived in his house for many years till he died. Make sure you take a look at the rich decoration in terra cotta and graffito plasterwork on the façade.
