It is run by the local government and is largely utilized for various after-school activities and sports programs for children and teenagers. Within the Bay Oaks Recreation Center, there are two full sized basketball courts and a climate controlled gymnasium. Constructed in 1986, the center has expanded its role in the community in numerous ways since its creation. In addition to serving the needs of the younger members of the Fort Myers community, the center now also hosts a program for senior citizens, the Bay Oaks Social Seniors.
