One of the famous attractions found in Port Elizabeth is the Bayworld Oceanarium. It is situated on the Port Elizabeth beachfront and is a very popular tourist spot for locals as well as foreigners. The Bayworld Oceanarium is composed of three different areas namely the oceanarium, the museum and the snake park. The Oceanarium was constructed in a 10-year period from the year 1959, wherein construction started with the main fish tank which now houses different varieties of turtles, sharks and fish.

The museum is also a very enlightening place to visit for both young and old people as it provides further knowledge on both natural and cultural history on various species of the animal kingdom. It also holds many exhibits showcasing the rich culture of South Africa.

The Bayworld snake park is another part of the oceanarium which features the different varieties of reptiles and amphibians such as crocodiles, turtles, lizards and snakes. This part of the oceanarium will definitely provide you with a unique experience as you are introduced to a vast selection of snakes.

The oceanarium’s major tourist attraction is probably the dolphin show which offers a delightful show of underwater activities for its audience. The dolphinarium in Port Elizabeth is about 60 meters in length and is able to hold nearly 5 million liters of seawater.

Bayworld Oceanarium is located at the corner of La Roche Drive and Beach Road in Humewood. It opens daily to visitors at 9 a.m. and closes at 4:30 p.m.
