Beach of Monte Gordo

Monte Gordo is Located just three kilometers to the west of frontier town Villa Real de San Antonio.

Once this beautiful place was a fishing village, but it has developed and now is a well-known holiday destination in Portugal. Monte Gordo has the largest beach in the Algarve and also the warmest waters. These excellent natural conditions are created by the Mediterranean climate and favoured geographical location near the mouth of the River Guardiana. The wide golden beach is one of the finest from the south coast of Portugal, is studded with pines, is very clean and stretches as far as the eye can see. If they are waking up early enough and if they are lucky, the tourists can see whales in the water which is a really great memory.

The little town has some other attractions, like the town’s glittering casino which was built in 1996 and features a modern gaming room, a nightly floorshow and more than 200 slot machines. Within a short drive north of Monte Gordo lies Castro Martin, which was the first headquarters of the Military Order of Christ, heirs to the Templars in Portugal.

Monte Gordo has a good public transport system with regular buses taking the tourists to resorts such as Tavira. The train reaches just to Tavira. From here tourists must take the bus to Monte Gordo.
