The Beaulieu House and Garden is a true gem in Drogheda, Couty Louth, Ireland. A home that has been in the same family since 1650, it displays a rare survivor of Ireland's heritage. First built by Sir Henry Tichbourne, its previous owners were the Plunkett family. However during the 1641 / 42 siege of Drogheda the ownership changed to Sir Henry Tichbourne who was the Marshall of the Army in Ireland as well as the Governor General of Drogheda which was during the restoration of Charles II. Since then it has been in the Tichbourne family. The current owner is that of a Mrs Gabriel De Freitas, a tenth generation descendant of Sir Henry Tichbourne. The family name has over the years changed from Tichbourne to Aston, to Tipping, Montgomery, Waggington, to its current name of De Freitas. For a house to survive up to the present day in a virtually unchanged state represents a true national treasure of Irish Heritage. Visitors can enjoy guided tours of the house where they can learn about the 350 years of family history, delight in the four acres of walled garden and explore the museum which contains a collection of Classic race and road cars. The house is also the family home of racing driver Gabriel Konig who was famous for her exploits in MG Midgets in the late 60's, as well as Camero in the early 70's. Scenic views stretch far and wide for the visitor from all directors while country walkways offer a romantic stroll through the Irish countryside. The Beaulieu House and Garden which is located overlooking the River Boyne, on the North Bank, one mile inland from the Irish Sea, is a historical landmark and a magical house in Ireland that should be experienced. Opening Times at the Beaulieu House and Garden: From 1st of May until mid September from Monday to Friday 11am - 17:00. Weekends during July & August from 13:00 - 17:00.
