The Bell Tower is located in the city of Xi’an, China. It was built in 1384 during the early Ming Dynasty and is considered the grandest of its kind in China. It is a stately building that marks the geographical center of the ancient capital. It stands to the crossing of the East, West, South and North avenues of the city proper.

The Bell Tower is a wooden tower and is the largest tower in China standing 36 meters high. The Bell tower was built because during the Ming Dynasty, Xi’an was an important military town in northwest China. The tower provided early warnings of any attack by rival rulers. The tower consists of three layers of eaves but only has two stories. Visitors can see the plaque that records the relocation of the tower in 1582 on the second floor. The Bell Tower also features grand engravings on the doors of the tower reflective of the decorative fashion and style during the Ming and Qing dynasties.

Admission to the tower is CNY 27 but can rise to CNY 40 when visitors want to enter both the Bell Tower and the Drum Tower. The tower is open from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. on April 1 to October 31 and is open from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on November 1 to March 31. Located near the Bell Tower are shopping malls, making the tower easily accessible.
