The two main attractions in the western end of Louisville’s Waterfront Park, the Belle of Louisville Steamboat and Spirit of Jefferson Riverboat are now popular tourist attractions and the perfect way to travel down the Ohio River.

The Belle of Louisville, a national landmark, dates back to 1914 and originally sailed on the Allegheny River in Pittsburgh, PA. After “tramping” down Midwestern rivers in the 1920’s, the Belle ended up in Louisville in 1931. Later it was bought by the local government and salvaged in 1963. Since then, it has been known to square off with the Delta Queen in an annual race as well as spiriting tourists around the area. It was declared a national landmark in 1989.

The Spirit of Jefferson was built in 1963 and was known as the Mark Twain while sailing out of New Orleans. After decades of providing tourist cruises out of St. Louis, the Spirit was bought by Louisville and remains in control of the city government.

Excursion-only tickets for the boats are $16 for adults, $15 for seniors and $8 for children 3-12. Tickets which include lunch cost $27, $26 and $18. Dinner and cruise tickets are $37, $36 and $22. Dance cruise tickets are $20 per person.
