Bellecour

Bellecour is a railway station located between the Saone and the Rhone, in Place Bellecour, in the city of Lyon, France. The first station building dates from 1862. This building was rebuilt several times until its final sextant shape in 1975.

The station provides bike lockers and an unattended bicycle parking lot many car parking lots are available as well. There is also a taxi rank and a ticket kiosk inside. In the center of it, the equestrian statue of Louis XIV is placed. Another statue, representing the Little Prince and Antoine de Saint-Exupery, is located at the west end of the square. The station also houses aTourist Office, a small children's playground, a fountain, two breweries and a large wheel. Place Bellecour is located at kilometer 0 of Lyon: all distances are counted from this point .It is served by two subway lines: A and D, and many bus lines, thus being the busiest metro station in Lyon.

From Place Bellecour leave three major arteries of the peninsula of Lyon, two of which are pedestrian, the street of the Republic, leading to the town hall and opera, and rue Victor Hugo, which leads to Perrache and Rue du Président Edouard Herriot. The district of Old Lyon and Saint-Jean Cathedral are located opposite from the Saone. Some landmark locations worth visiting are: Museum of fine arts of Lyon, Parc de la Tête d'Or, Opéra Nouvel. Throughout the year a number of events take place in Bellecour square, especially in winter when there is installed an ice rink. There are also concerts and book fairs.
The closest airports to the station are: Saint Exupery and Bouthéon and two other train stations located near this one are: Part Dieu Railway Station and Gare de Lyon Perrache. This train station is also accessible by metro, therefore the closest metro stops are: Vieux Lyon - Cathédrale Saint-Jean and Ampere-Victor Hugo.
