Belvedere is a golf course situated near the town of Annecy in the Alps of South Eastern France. The course has 9 holes, is well maintained, and will please both beginners and experienced players. It is surrounded by beautiful mountains, and the course follows many small valleys winding through the forest. The nearby town of Annecy lies on the northern tip of Lake Annecy, only 35km south of Geneva – which could be an enjoyable day trip from Annecy. The Annecy international animated film festival takes places here every year since 1960. The town is sometimes called the Venice of Savoie, a title which it well deserves. Annecy has many tourist attractions. The best known is probably the so-called Palais de l'Isle – the palace of the island, which was built in the 12th century. It lies on an island in the lake, and is most likely one of the most photographed monuments in the whole of France. Others include: Annecy castle, also dating from the 12th century; the cathedral of Saint-Pierre and the rue Sainte Claire dating from the 17th century. You can also swim, or hire a boat to row or sail on the lake. Hiking in the surrounding mountains is a favorite among many visitors. Alternatively rent a bike and explore the area around the lake or drive into the mountains if you are fit enough for that. Self catering apartments are very popular and you can find a fully equipped apartment for 4 people for around 80 Euros (2009). A well-known apartment center is PV-Holidays Adagio Annecy Centre. There are too many restaurants in and around Annecy to mention names here. Whatever your taste in food, you are sure to find something to please your palate. Between meals you should perhaps try a brioche (sweet roll), which can be found at any of the bakeries in town. The nearest major airports are in Geneva, Lyon and Grenoble. Geneva is only 35km away with the new motorway. There is an airport in Annecy, but it only has flights to Paris. This is of course ideal if you are an international tourist.
