Ben Gurion International Airport is located in Airport City, Tel Aviv District, Israel; it is the largest and busiest international airport in the country with numerous domestic and international passenger and freight airlines operating regular and seasonal flights. The airport started its operations in 1936 Wilhelma Airport then as Lydda Airport. In 1943, it was renamed as RAF Lydda and served as a significant military air base. It then became Lod Airport after a few years until finally becoming Ben Gurion International Airport in honor of David Ben-Gurion, the first prime minister of Israel.

Dubbed as one of the most secure airports in the world, it is manned by both uniformed and undercover security officers police officers and IDF soldiers. Although targeted by several terrorist attacks, not one hijacking attempt departing from the airport has ever succeeded; however, some hijacked planes from other airports have landed in Ben Gurion International Airport.

Airport facilities include ATMs, foreign currency exchange, post office, shops, restaurants, cafes, first aid clinics, mother-and-child room, synagogue, conference and business facilities, disabled access and facilities, and spacious parking areas.
