Ben Nevis

Hotels near Ben Nevis, Fort William, United Kingdom .

Ben Nevis is the highest mountain in the British Isles, at 1,344 metres (4,409ft), and is situated at the western end of the Grampian Mountains close to the Scottish town of Fort William. Most visitors, of which there are over 100,000 a year, stick to the well worn path to the top, but serious climbers and mountaineers are attracted to the 700 metre high cliffs on the north face. At the top stand the ruins of an observatory, which was staffed until the early 20th century, and whose weather data has been important in understanding the Scottish climate.

Fort William is the second largest town in the highlands of Scotland, after Inverness. Its major industry is tourism, due to Ben Nevis being close by, with walking and climbing being the main activities. Fort William is also known for the Downhill Mountain Bike Track and the West Highland Way, a path which runs from Glasgow.

There are several hotels to choose from, but the Inverlochy Castle Hotel has five stars and is a 19th century building set in the countryside. The hotel has a restaurant and a room here costs from £295 per night. The Ben Nevis Hotel and Leisure /club has three stars and is situated at the foot of Ben Nevis. A room here costs from £45 per night.
