Also known as Chaklala Airbase, the Benazir Bhutto International Airport is Pakistan’s third largest airport. Located in Ravalpindi, Punjab, its former name was Islamabad International Airport and was renamed Benazir Bhutto on June of 2008 by Prime Minester Yusuf raza Gillani.

Located outside Islamabad, the airport is in the Chaklala Ralawpindi area. Being Pakistani capital’s main airport, it often receives both locals and tourists regularly. The airport shares and airfields with the Pakistan Air Force liaison squadron.

Both a military and a civil airport, many VIP’s pass through including foreign diplomat, high government officials and military officials. The Rawal Lounge is the designated waiting area for high profile personalities. Separate lounges for domestic and international passengers are available. Snack bars, satellite television, public telephones and internet services are available for all passengers.

Lounges for passengers with connecting flights are also provided. Automated teller machines are also available at this airport and fax, and phone facilities. Newspapers and magazines as well as credit card facilities are available form the Askari bank in the premises.

The Pakistan government has decided to construct a new Islamabad airport at Fateh Hang about five kilometers from Islamabad. The new airport is planned to be fully constructed by the year 2010.

International passenger airlines include Airblue, Air Arabia, Ariana Afghan Airlines, China Southern Airlines, Emirates, Etihad Airways, Gulf Air, Kuwait Airways, Pakistan International Airlines, Qatar Airways, Saudi Arabia Airlines, Shaheen Air International, Roayl Airlines and Thai Airways International. Destinations include Abu Dhabi, Manchester, Sharjah, Kabul, Urumqi, Dubai, Bahrain, Kuwait, Doha, Dammam, Abu Dhabi, Islamabad and Bangkok.
