Bercuit golf course is situated near the town of Leuven, about 30km east of Brussels in Belgium. Other cities nearby are Mechelen, Aarschot, Tienen and Wavre. Golf du Bercuit is an 18-hole course at Les Gottes on the outskirts of Bercuit. It is well maintained, and will provide many hours of enjoyment to both beginners and more advanced players. The course is surrounded by the rolling wooded hills of this part of Belgium. The course is very popular, so it is advisable to book in advance. The ornate 15th century town hall in the nearby town of Leuven is probably one of the most impeccable medieval buildings you will find anywhere on earth. Other sights include: the “fonske” or fountain of youth – a statue near the town center representing a university student busy reading a book, while he holds up a glass and the contents flow into his head like a stream of wisdom. Not many people know that the head office of InBev, the world's largest brewery, is in Leuven. Since Leuven is a university town, the summer months bring many open air concerts and exhibitions. The university, founded in 1425, is the oldest Catholic university in the world. During summer months eating outside is a must-do activity. The best known area in Leuven for this is the so-called “muntstraat” - street of coins. There you will find everything from classical French to Mexican cuisine to Belgian, Italian, Vietnamese, Chinese and Japanese restaurants. The area around Oude Markt and Parijsstraat have many cozy restaurants and bars. North Sea mussels is a favorite around town from August to March, and you will see many restaurants advertising this. Hotels in town range from about €50 (2009) to well over €200 per night. There is a youth hostel, and plentiful bed-and-breakfasts are also available, starting from €30 per night. Getting there and away – You are likely to land at Brussels International Airport. From there you can either take a train or bus to Brussels and from there to Leuven, or you can take a direct train to Leuven. There are also direct trains to Leuven from Mechelen, Lier, Antwerp, Ghent and Bruges. If you have a car, take the E40 from Brussels. Safety – Leuven is a very safe place.
