Bergisel Ski Jump is a ski jump ramp located in Innsbruck, Austria. It was constructed between 2001 and 2002 following the plans from Zaha Hadid and Stahlbau Pichler was responsible for the steel construction. It is characterized as a concise piece of functional design, an instrument for high performance sport, shaped with mathematical precision. It is part of a larger refurbishment project for the Winter Olympics and replaced the old, out of date ski jump. Due to its location on the Bergisel Mountain overlooking downtown Innsbruck it provides unique views and is considered a major landmark of the area.
The building perfectly combines the highly specialized sports facilities and public spaces, including a café and a viewing terrace. It is also a combination of a tower and a bridge and has a length of about 90 meters and is 50 meters high. It is beautifully divided into a vertical concrete tower and a green structure, which integrates the ramp and the café.
There are two elevators that bring visitors to 40 meters over the peak of the Bergisel Mountain. The tourists can enjoy there the services of the café and especially the surrounding alpine landscape as well as watch the athletes below fly above the Innsbruck skyline. The whole complex is one of the most popular visitor attractions in the Tirol and it can be visited daily from 9.00 to 17.00 hours.
