While technically alluding to the marina itself, Berkeley Marina is more commonly a reference to the westernmost portion of the city of Berkeley, California. Essentially a peninsula that extends into the San Francisco Bay west of the Eastshore Freeway near University Avenue, in addition to the marina, Berkeley Marina boasts both Cesar Chavez State Park and the southernmost portion of Eastshore State Park. The history of Berkeley Marina dates back to 1909, when the City of Berkeley built a wharf for freight, and over the years, the neighborhood has housed an auto ferry service, a fishing pier, the city dump, and today, Cesar Chavez State Park.

In addition to the two state parks, Berkeley Marina is home to a number of restaurants, walking and bike paths, the Berkeley Yacht Club, and the DoubleTree Hotel and Executive Meeting Center Berkeley Marina. This beautiful neighborhood, overlooking San Francisco from across the Bay plays host to the annual Berkeley Kite Festival every July, is within walking distance of Golden Gate Fields horse racing park, and is just two miles west of the University of California at Berkeley campus.
