This station is the railway station of Bern of the Swiss Federal Railways (SBB), Bern-Lötschberg-Simplon AG (BLS) and the narrow-gauge regional Bern-Solothurn (RBS), as well as the hub of the suburban railway network of the city of Bern, Switzerland.

The station was first built in 1857. Ever since, it has undergone several changes. It is, after the main station of Zurich, the second largest train station in Switzerland. A shuttle bus connects it to the airport Bern-Belp. The design of the RailCity follows a design concept that emphasizes the function of the station as a transportation hub. Colors, promotional information, window frames and caption are oriented to the corporate design of the SBB.

Particularly acute is the problem with RBS subway station, which was designed for the construction of 16,000 passengers, but is used daily by some 50,000 passengers. There are, therefore, plans for further expansion, the project "Future Station Bern" (ZBB), a joint project between the city and canton of Bern, the Swiss Federal Railways, BLS, the RBS, BERNMOBIL and other organizations.

It is located close to the Holy Ghost Church and the Civic Hospital. There is a shopping mall very close to the station.
