As part of the First District of the African Methodist Episcopal Church, the Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church is one of the main religious centers in the Indianapolis area, and in all of Indiana. This historical building proudly boasts the title of the “Oldest Black Church in the City of Indianapolis”. The church's theme is “The Church in the Heart of the City With a Heart for the City”.
It is located in Downtown Indianapolis, at 414 West Vermont Street. Today the presiding Bishop for the congregation is Reverend John R. Bryant.

The Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church is open from 10:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, and holds services on Sunday at 11:00 a.m.
