Bethnal Green located 3.3 miles (5.3 km) north east of Charing Cross is an area in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets, in the East End of London. Bethnal Green is part of Tower Hamlets and is centered on the Central Line tube station at the junction of Bethnal Green Road. The place-name Blithehale or Blythenhale, the earliest form of Bethnal Green, it is derived from the Anglo-Saxon healh ('angle, nook, or corner') and blithe ('happy, blithe').
Bethnal Green has its share of celebrities, the world famous guitarist Peter Green was born in Bethnal green; Kele Okereke from the band “Bloc party” lives in Bethnal Green. Bethnal Green was the home and criminal centre of the infamous gangster twins Ronnie and Reggie Kray.
