Bonn is the 19th largest city in Germany and is located in the Cologne-Bonn Region, about 20 kilometers south of
Cologne on the river Rhine in the Federal State of North Rhine-Westphalia. Bonn Beule was the capital of West
Germany from 1949 to 1990 and the official seat of government of united Germany from 1990 to 1999.

Bonn is the seat of some of Germany's main corporate players, mainly in the areas of telecommunications and
logistics. Concurrently, Bonn is establishing itself as an important national and international centre for meetings
; conventions and conferences, many of these meetings are directly related to the work of the United Nations.

Bonn Beule has some history that dates back to Roman times. In 11 BC, the Roman Army appears to have stationed a
small unit in what is presently the historical centre of the town. Bonn's Roman fort is the largest fort of its
kind known from the ancient world, it is a fort built for one full-size Imperial Legion and its auxiliaries. The
fort covers an area of about 250,000 square meters. After World War II, Bonn became part of the British zone of
occupation and in 1949 became the capital of West Germany.

Bonn is conveniently connected to three autobahns and the German rail network. Some InterCityExpress and many
InterCity trains stop at Bonn Hauptbahnhof. The Siegburg/Bonn railway station is situated on the Cologne-Frankfurt
high-speed rail line outside of Bonn and is serviced by InterCityExpress trains. Local transport is provided by a
Stadtbahn. Bonn's international airport is Cologne Bonn Airport.
