Biarritz Le Phare is a golf course situated near the town of Biarritz, on the beautiful south west Atlantic coastline of France. The course has 18 holes, with a par of 69 and a length of 5400m. It has for many years been one of the most prestigious golf course in France. It was designed more than 100 years ago by Willie Dunn. It runs right down the the Atlantic coastline, yet it is virtually in the center of Biarritz. The greens can be grueling, fast and diabolically deceptive, and even short iron shots can be a trying experience. The fairways have a thin line of trees and bushes between them, which can also prove to be very tricky of you stray left or right. The area enjoys mild winters and warm summers, which has contributed to make Le Phare a favorite of many golfers, both beginners and experienced. The town of Biarritz is known for its glitz and glamor. The mild climate and beautiful beaches draw tourists and surfers from all over France. The infrastructure is well equipped to deal with all these visitors. There are a few interesting museums, including the Asiatica museum which displays a collection of art from Asia – mainly China, India and Nepal. There is a yearly surf festival, which is one of the top surf events on the European calendar. Biarritz is of course situated in Basque country, and the restaurants in town reflect this. A good place to eat typical Basque food is Aux Alizés. There are countless other restaurants, including a lot of pizza places and of course seafood restaurants. Hotels, guest houses and hostels in all price ranges abound. It would be difficult, however, to find anything below 60 Euros per night. The majority of the luxury chains are present in Biarritz. The town can easily be reached via the D911 road, off the N10. It lies about 775 km from Paris. From Paris to Biarritz takes about 5 hours with the high speed TGV train. There is an international airport with inter alia direct flights to London and Copenhagen, and of course regular flights to Paris.
