Biblical Zoo is another moniker for Tisch Family Zoological Gardens, referring to its vast collection of animals that were mentioned in the Jewish Scriptures. With such feature, visitors can find many species that are endemic to Israel and have become extinct in other continents or countries.

The origins of the Biblical Zoo sprouted from a small children’s zoo, located in a modest facility in central Jerusalem. Its main objective was to preserve rare animals surrounded by their natural habitat. As the collection grew, moving facilities became a main concern. Biblical Zoo transferred many times before finding its current 62-acre home in Malha, situated in southwestern Jerusalem.

Among the rare animals seen in Biblical Zoo include Arabian Oryx, Nile crocodile, Persian fallow deer, Golden Lion Tamarin and plenty of bird species. Aside from viewing animals, visitors are treated to interactive shows, animal encounters, themed exhibitions, musical events and special workshops during summer vacation.

To reach Biblical Zoo, visitors can drive; take the bus or the special rail. The local trains have a designated trip to the zoo or the mall beside it. Operating hours vary at different periods. From Sundays to Thursdays, Biblical Zoo is ready to welcome visitors starting at 9 a.m. until 6 p.m. Friday and holiday eves find the zoo closing early at 4:30 p.m. On public holidays and Saturdays, zoo opens at 10 a.m. and closes at 6 p.m.
