While Nashville is a pretty bustling city, one of the brightest in the New South, there are a number of green spaces around town where it's possible to slow down and relax, even in the midst of an urban environment. Best of all, a visit to one of Nashville's parks means not having to drive an hour or more out of town to enjoy some nature time.

The most popular urban park in Nashville is Bicentennial Mall State Park, right in the center of downtown Nashville. Bicentennial Mall State Park covers almost 20 acres, and in addition to enjoying some leisure time in open spaces, offers tours by park rangers that focus largely on the city and the state history.

There is a large grassy knoll, known as The Plaza, where many picnics and Frisbee games happen on the nicest, sunniest days. The park also features a history time line of Tennessee, as well as some other touches, like a farmer's market and fountains designed to look like geysers.

Open daily from dawn until dusk, Bicentennial Mall State Park is close to a number of other popular spots downtown. Many hotels are just a short walk away, including The Doubletree Hotel Nashville, The Hermitage Hotel, and The Sheraton Nashville Downtown Hotel.
