Hotels near Billabong Sanctuary, Townsville, Australia .

Billabong Sanctuary is an interactive wildlife sanctuary located in Nome; it is just 17 kilometers to the south of Townsville, North Queensland. Home to several native species in Australia, it is a place where visitors could touch, feed, handle, and have their pictures taken with the animals. It features cassowary feeding, wombat patting, koala patting, and even snake handling and crocodile feeding and handling! Open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily, the park offers guided tours for a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Billabong, an Aboriginal word which means “waterhole”, could be seen scattered all over the park – with many species of wading birds and waterfowl foraging for food. The park is divided into three distinct environments – eucalypt forest, wetlands, and rainforest. All over the park, animals could be seen in their natural habitat yet are friendly and often eager to be fed by the visitors.
