Bislett stadion

Bislett stadion is a sports stadium located in Oslo, Norway. In fact, with 15 speed skating world records and more than 50 track and field world records having been set here it is Norway's most well known sports arena internationally. In 1898 the Municipality of Kristiania (Oslo) bought the site of a 19th century brick works and turned it into a sports field in 1908. Martinus Lørdahl, a speed skater, gymnast and sports organizer completed the construction of the stadium in 1922. Frode Rinnan transformed the arena into the most important speed skating and track stadium in Norway in 1940, with a capacity of 20,000. Bislett is well-known for having hosted the Bislett Games since 1965and an annual track and field event in the IAAF Golden League.
In 1988 the decision of demolishing the old skating arena was made. The new stadium was inaugurated with the Bislett Games on July 29, 2005. The new running track has eight lanes with a 37,5 m turning radius and has received a 1st class certification by the IAAF, shared by only a handful other stadiums in Northern Europe. The new stadium has provided space for a 105 x 68 m football pitch, and it currently meets national requirements for hosting football matches in the Norwegian Premier League, although no team plays there.
Regarding to the football tradition, Valerenga I.F. had played its home ground matches there for 55 seasons and recorded four title victories. Even if the top teams in Oslo refuse to play at Bislett stadion, there is being held a Scandinavian club tournament known as Royal League.
