The Black Archives Research Center, housed in the Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University (FAMU) in historic Tallahassee, Florida, was founded by history professor Dr. James N. Eaton in 1976. The state sought a place to collect and preserve historically-significant materials and artifacts relevant to the history and future of African Americans. Over the years, the center has served as a valuable resource area for numerous public and private businesses, educational institutions, religious, political, and civic groups, as well as social projects. Over 160,000 visitors pass through the center every year.
Museum collections and holdings include the Joe Lang Kershaw FAMUana Room, which depicts social life at the university, The Steele-Alexander Memorial Upper Room, which commemorates the contributions of the African American church, and other exhibits such as Blacks in the Military, Komics, Koon, and Klan Collection, “Slavery in the Old South” Memoribilia, and African American Scientists and Inventors.

The museum is open on weekdays from 9 AM to 5 PM. Admission is free.
