For more than 40 years the Black Liberated Arts Center, or BLAC, has provided Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, with a resource for African-American and African cultural exposure. Founded by Dr. John Smith, then an employee of the Music Department at Langston University, the Arts Center continues to have an emphasis on education, specifically focused on the youth of Oklahoma. Incorporated in 1971, this non-profit was founded on music, literature, visual arts and theater. Today BLAC, Inc. is still celebrated for its innovated programs in arts education, and brings the fine arts to the community in the form of events, special events and performances in various venues around Oklahoma City like the Rose State Performing Arts Theater, Petroleum Culb, and the Oklahoma History Center.
