A gateway to the west and a site of many historical moments in the nation's history, St. Louis has more than its fair share of museums devoted to a number of different topics. From Louis and Clark to the cornerstone Dred Scott court case, there's something to explore for every moment of history, and those who love to learn from the past will love museum-hopping in St. Louis.

One of the most popular museums in the city, the Black World History Museum, brings history to today with its depictions of the early lives of African-Americans and their numerous contributions to American life. The museum tells the entire stories of the lives of a number of African-Americans, from famous individuals such as Harriett and Dred Scott and George Washington Carver, to regular individuals with extraordinary sacrifices.

A number of different permanent exhibits are on display at the Black World History Museum, including artifacts from a slave's cabin near Jonesboro, a replica of the ship quarters that many slaves were brought over to America in, and an extensive and touching exhibit dedicated to the life of Dr. Martin Luther King.
