Blackrock Clinic began operating in1984. Today, this institution has around 100 consultants involved in varied range of specialities practising from various suites in the clinic.

This clinic was co founded by James Sheehan, his brother Joseph and Maurice Neligan. Then, it used to be a high tech private hospital that provided health care treatment only to patients who were privately insured.

Blackrock Clinic comprises an Intensive Care Unit, a Coronary Care Unit, an Oncology Day Unit and a Day Care Facility. Also it includes 2 Cardiac units and five surgical theatres. This hospital provides services for the treatment of surgical, dental and medical patients.

This hospital is managed by an advisory committee and a medical research committee which holds major clinical trials. These two committees take care to maintain the medical standards. This hospital is in affiliation with the Royal College of Surgeons and University College Dublin (UCD). With this affiliation, it conducts education programmes for its staff. This way, the staff is updated with latest in medicine and of course the knowledge base widens.

It was in the year 2008 that the Blackrock clinic had announced an expansion of 100 million euro over a period of five years and aimed at doubling its capability and its capacity.
