Blasewitz Dresden is located in the eastern centre of the city. It consists of six quarters (Stadtteile). Besides being an urban and often preferred multiple dwelling villa quarter with appealing architecture Blasewitz is situated on the river Elbe.
Blasewitz was first mentioned in 1349. The village of fishermen and wine-growers developed into a suburb of Dresden in the Gründerzeit. Since the taxes were reasonably low it was a popular place of residence for wealthy people until its incorporation.
In the center of Blasewitz is the Schillerplatz with a movie theater and mall (Schillergalerie). The central church is the Heilig-Geist-Kirche, which was built in the neo-gothic style 1893 under Karl Emil Scherz.
Blasewitz is served by the airport in Dresden. The Dresden Airport is the international airport of Dresden, located at the north-western outskirts of the town in the district of Klotzsche. Most of the scheduled flights are domestic flights for example to Munich International Airport, Frankfurt International Airport or Düsseldorf International Airport while there are also some daily international lines to Vienna International Airport, Zürich Airport and London Gatwick Airport.
The local public transport system is operated by the Dresdner Verkehrsbetriebe AG/DVB. There is a large tramway network that provides adequate transport facility to everyone.
