Bloemenmarkt

The Bloemenmarkt is the worlds only floating flower market and was founded in 1862. It is located in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, on Singel between Muntplein and Koningsplein in the city's southern canal belt. It includes 15 florists and garden shops as well as a range of souvenir shops.

There has been a floating market here since the 17th century and now, a row of 15 shops on permanently moored barges sell bunches of freshly cut flowers as fast as the sales staff can wrap them. Also on sale are plants, packets of tulip bulbs with phytosanitary certificates that allows their import into many countries, and all kinds of green-fingered accessories. Buying flowers along the fragrantly scented canalside is an Amsterdam ritual, though prices are no smaller than those in shops.

Several hundred meters long, it is a favorite tourist attraction but one can tell that they also do serious business here. The volume of products on offer from bulbs, to potted plants and cut flowers is quite large. The market has an incredible selection of tulip bulbs. Lots and lots of varieties of bulbs are for sale for just tens of cents each to rough 1 Euro each for the biggest and most sought after tulips.
Also, The Bloemenmarkt sales a lot of potted plants suitable for small apartments, window boxes and small terrace gardens.
A few stalls are specialized in cut flowers.
