Bochum Hauptbahnhof

Bochum Station is the most important station in the city of Bochum and the central hub for all urban public transport. It was rebuilt in 1955 and 1957. Its reception building is considered one of the major German railway station buildings of the 1950s, the overall effect of the large foyer with its curved concrete roof.
The original train station was a few hundred meters further to the west of the present railway station at King Avenue. The current location of the railway was formerly the Brewery Scharpenseel, which was completely destroyed during the war. Next lay there a cemetery gathering Christian and Jewish graves. The approximately 800 graves were moved off this location. The construction of the station was also the basis for the change in the urban transport system. The entire road has been aligned to the station. Today’s monumental building was used after the opening of the current central station until about 1994 by the German Federal Railways as a training center.
The closest airports to this location are: Essen-Mühlheim and Dortmund, located within a 25 km distance from the station.
