Bo’Kaap or the Malay Quarter is known as a traditionally multicultural area that is very rich in history, and is filled with a certain appeal that draws tourists and locals alike to its streets.

Although the Bo’Kaap Museum is one of the main attractions of the area, it cannot be denied that the cobble stone streets, the colorful buildings, and pleasant environment add a romantic air to the area. The Bo’Kaap Museum is easily spotted as it has a voorstoep, or a type of front terrace that has a bench at each end that emphasizes the polarizing aspect of the Muslim culture in Cape Town.

The known museum has stood for a long time, dating back to the 1760s, and it is known as the oldest house within the area that has managed to retain its original form. It mainly signifies the cultural contribution that the early Muslim settlers have provided the area; many of these settlers were the initial carpenters, builders, tailors, and shoemakers.
