Bondi Beach, pronounced “BOND-eye”, Australia’s famous beach is situated in Bondi suburbs, at the Municipality of Waverly, 7 kilometers from Sydney. Bondi was believed to be an Aboriginal word meaning “the sound of breaking waves”.

The beach has an estimated length of one kilometer with a width of an average of 50 meters at the north with the Children’s Wading Pool and the Wally Weekes Pool, widening to 100 meters at the south with the Bondi Baths. During the summer, the beach has a water temperature of 21 degrees and on September and October is at 16 degrees. A shark net is placed 150 meters off the beach. Red and yellow flags were designated on swimming areas and are moved according to surf conditions.

Lifeguards are employed on the beach the whole year, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. from May to September, 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Late September to October, 6 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. from late October to March, and 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on April.

Buildings on the beach include the Bondi Pavilion, Bondi Pavilion Community Cultural Centre, Bondi Surf Bathers Life Saving Club and North Bondi Surf Club.
