The Borkumriff IV light vessel was built by Norderwharf Koeser & Meyer, Hamburg. The Borkumriff IV light vessel was stationed at J/E 3-Borkumriff north-west of the island of Borkum for the first time. This lightship looks totally different from all other former German lightships. The latern mast and bridge are made from light metall.
The overall length of the vessel is 53.70 m, its beam stands at 9 m, draught at 4.40 m, side height is 6.10 m and the displacement is approximately 825 BRT. The vessel was built from 1954 to 1956, at yard no. 813. The Borkumriff IV light vessel was fitted with a 4 Deutz-Diesel-Engines á 100 PS + 1 Jet-Duesenruder, its speed stood at 9.5 knots
The Borkumriff IV light vessel was the last manned German light vessels to be de-commissioned. Today the vessel is berthed at the island of Borkum. It is open to the public and visitors can explore the ship with a guided tour (in German only).
