Boston Tea Party Ships & Museum

Hotels near Boston Tea Party Ships & Museum, Boston, United States .

Located on Boston’s Inner Harbor, just across the Congress Street Bridge from South Station in Boston’s Financial District, the Boston Tea Party Ships and Museum commemorate the history surrounding Boston’s role in the American Revolution. On December 16th, 1773, in Griffins Wharf, close to the site of the current museum, tax protesters raided three British tea ships, throwing the tea into the Boston Harbor to protest Britain’s taxation of the Colonies. This act, referred to as the Boston Tea Party, is one of the most famous acts in American History and served as a catalyst to the American Revolution, which began near Boston less than two years later. The Boston Tea Party Ships and Museum were established in 1973 as a monument to the Boston Tea Party, with the museum itself being a replica of the Beaver, one of the tea ships raided in 1773. The Boston Tea Party Ships and Museum is currently closed for renovations, with a planned re-opening during the summer of 2010. The renovation will add replicas of the remaining two ships, added space for exhibitions and displays, and a new Boston Tea Room food service area. Located at 304 Congress Street in Boston, the Boston Tea Party Ships and Museum are within short walking distance of the Boston Children’s Museum and Institute of Contemporary Art, and a short cab ride away from Faneuil Hall Marketplace and Boston Commons.

Local hotel accommodations include the InterContinental Boston, the Hilton Boston Financial District, Seaport Hotel & World Trade Center Boston, and the Langham Boston Hotel.
