The Botanic Garden of Jagiellonian University is perhaps the oldest botanical garden in the whole of Poland. This botanical garden was founded in the year 1873 in Krakow.

Near the end of the 18th century, Hugo Kotataj reformed the Cracow University and this was when this botanical garden was formed.

The Botanical Garden of Jagiellonian University is open for tourists and visitors between the months April and October. This botanical garden is built on the old river bed. In the premises of this botanical garden, there are a few important buildings like the astronomical observatory that was built sometime between the years 1788 to 1792. This observatory now functions as the botanical museum.

Many scientists conduct their studies in natural science. The museum which is situated in the premises of this botanical garden holds exhibitions of paintings and photography many a times a year. Also many theatre performances and poetic meetings are held in this garden.

In 1976, this garden was officially recognised as a prestigious monument of garden art, science and undoubtedly culture.

This botanical garden boasts of around 5 thousand species which include medicinal, crop and ornamental plants.
