The Botanical Gardens at Asheville is a ten acre botanical garden that is located on the campus of the University of North Carolina. The gardens feature a wide variety of plants and flowers native to the Western North Carolina region, especially the Southern Appalachian Mountains. Admission is free, however donations are always welcome. There are over 600 species of plants represented within the gardens; these include wildflowers, shrubs, vines, grasses and trees. The gardens are often used for weddings and other events. The visitor center and most trails are all wheelchair accessible. The best time to visit is between April and May when the flowers bloom.
