The Bouffes du Nord is a theater located in the Chapel neighborhood on boulevard de la Chapelle in the 10th arrondissement of Paris, opposite the metro station La Chapelle.

The Bouffes du Nord was built in 1876 and was then named Molière Theater until 1904 and will be a Mecca of artists until World War II.

This place has something mythical, of ancestral dramatic, living, fetish. His name is terrible, like one of the mouths of the Erebus and yet it is one of the most beautiful theaters in Paris. The rickety staircase surrounded by dark green walls and a room awash in the dust which multiplies the gray areas makes the audience curious. Visitors mind wanders on iron railings and columns to find people from the previous century sitting there. Ideal for playing a classical tragedy, the Bouffes du North rose to its soil; its dome ceiling greets hungry pure theater, although this is, according to Cocteau, perfect tautology.

The theatre has an English director, Peter Brook, who brought a wonderful atmosphere and delights the audience with his quirky productions in French, and sometimes, in English. The venue was recently renovated and in 2009 can be seen here plays like Love is my sin, an amalgam of Shakespeare’s sonnets and monologues which are directed by Brook himself.

The theatre is easy accessible by the metro, La Chapelle metro station being next to it.
