Home to roughly 6,000 undergraduate and postgraduate students, Bradley University in Peoria, Illinois, is a private, co-educational university. Founded as the Bradley Polytechnic Institute in 1897 by philanthropist Lydia Moss Bradley in memory of her deceased husband and children, she wanted the school to prepare young people for the modern world by providing them with a “practical education.” Once a four-year academy and two-year college, by 1920 the institute became solely a four-year collegial program and experienced continued growth through the 1940s when it was renamed Bradley University. Today the University is composed of the College of Education and Health Sciences, College of Engineering and Technology, College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, Foster College of Business Administration, Slane College of Communications and Fine Arts, Academic Exploration Program, and Graduate School granting degrees in business, communications and fine arts, education and health sciences, engineering, and liberal arts and sciences. The Bradley University Braves men’s and women’s athletic teams compete in sports like basketball, cross country, baseball, softball and tennis, and compete in the Missouri Valley Conference.

Sitting on 85 acres, the Bradley University campus is located minutes from downtown Peoria, and attractions like the Glen Oak Zoo, WeaverRidge Golf Club, Forest Park Foundation, the Wildlife Prairie State Park, Splashdown Water Park, the Peoria Riverfront, the Spirit of Peoria paddle sternwheeler and the Contemporary Art Center of Peoria.
