Bramall Lane

Bramall Lane is a stadium located in Sheffield, South Yorkshire, England. It is the stadium that hosts the Sheffield United Football Club’s home matches and, besides that, it is the oldest major stadium in the world still to be hosting professional football matches. According to a plan, from 2010 it will be the home ground for Sheffield's rugby league team, Sheffield Eagles.
It opened in 1855 as a cricket ground away from the town's industrial area, and relatively free from smoke. It initially had six cricket clubs playing there and was managed by Sheffield United Cricket Club. The first football match was held in 1862 between Sheffield F.C. and Hallam F.C. as a fund raising event and ended 0–0. The Youdan Cup, first football tournament in the world, held its final at Bramall Lane in March 1867. One year later followed the Cromwell Cup and in 1877 Sheffield Challenge Cup took place recording an 8,000 people audience. Bramall Lane effectively became the local team’s house in 1880.
The ground became an all-seater stadium in 1994 and is now made up of four main stands and two corner infill stands. The North-West corner and the South-East corner are still open, although there are plans to fill it with seating as part of the strategy to build a leisure complex at the back of the South Stand.
The stadium has also hosted rugby league games for the Sheffield Eagles, a Billy Graham Evangelist meeting in 1985 and even a rock concert for Bruce Springsteen in 1988.
