Brava Beach or Praia Brava is an exquisite beach in the Buzios region of Brazil. Although brava actually means ‘angry’ in Portuguese, don’t let that scare you away. The beach is renowned for its surf, with waves reaching great heights. Local legend tells of a ship which ran a ground in the bay; the captain, Dionisio and his crew prayed to Patron Saint Anne and made it to the nearby Praia da Armacao without harm. The beach is well preserved—there aren’t many businesses in the area due to conservation efforts. Praia Brava is somewhat isolated—you won’t find much in the way of facilities or restaurants so bring a picnic and relax in the sun. The sea is a little rough and tends to be colder, but it is peaceful. Hotels in the region include Maratea Mare and Canto da Ilha.
