So-named because it was a gift from the Brenton Foundation, the facility lies along the Principal Riverwalk on the Des Moines River waterfront. In winter months (from November to March) the open-air ice skating rink is open to ice skaters and broomball players alike. A trip to Brenton Skating Plaza is fun and recreational, perfect for families and visitors of all ages. During summer months, Brenton Skating Plaza serves as an outdoor event center, hosting concerts, events, and gatherings. Brenton Skating Plaza is a short walk away from other popular downtown attractions like the Science Center of Iowa, Principal Park, the East Village, the Historical Building, and the State Capitol. These attractions and more are all conveniently located by accommodation like the Embassy Suites Hotel, the Hotel Fort, the Hampton Inn-Airport, and the Des Moines Quality Inn & Suites Event Center.
