Brest is the capital city of Brittany, a French region that stretches from continental France to the Atlantic Ocean, giving France it's popular name of "The Hexagon".

Brest's, and Brittany's main airport, Brest Bretagne Airport (BES) is 10.2 km away from Brest in the Guipavas commune. Brest is a relatively small city compared to Paris, Lyon or Bordeaux, but its airport is international, taking passengers from Paris and Bordeaux all the way to Djerba (Tunisia) or Marrakech (Morocco). The charter airlines greatly contributed to the airport's growth over the years, and the airport is now one of the hotspots for people from Britain that wish to come to France.

Accomodating 1.4 million passengers annually, the airport was constructed in December 2007, and nowadays you can see up to eight planes take off and land at once. There is a shuttle service connecting Brest city center and Brest Bretagne airport for only 4.6 euros one way, or 8.4 euros round trip.

Brest is a famous tourist attraction, and in the city there's no time to get bored: the must-sees include Pont de Recouvrance (a drawbridge 64m/210ft high), the castle and the Tour Tanguy (the oldest monuments of the city), Rue de Siam (Siam Street, very famous among breton sailors, main artery of the city).

Accomodation near the airport can be expensive. Hotel Oceania Brest Aeroport (3.7km away) offers rooms starting from 85 euros, while, if you're lucky, you can still get a room at Premiere Classe Brest Gouesnou (3.4km away) for 38 euros. In the city you can find a room at a decent hotel starting for 50 euros, or choose the city center hotels for prices starting from 90 euros per room.

Tip: Try to visit Brest by summer, otherwise you will have to deal with many rainy days.
