The Bridge of Remembrance is a monument in the form of an arch located on the Cashel Street Bridge in Christchurch, New Zealand. The Bridge was designed by architects Prouse and Gummer. It is constructed with a concrete faced and out of sandstone. It is owned and maintained by the Christchurch City Council. The bridge is significant to New Zealand’s war history because soldiers who are off to war would pass beneath it.

Unveiled in 1924, the Bridge of Remembrance was designed in order to commemorate the Canterbury’s contribution to the efforts of the First World War. A Mrs J Wyn, put forth the suggestion of constructing a bridge in a letter she wrote to The Press. The design of the Bridge of Remembrance incorporates a cross, which means to signify the sacrifices of war and of those who participate in it. After its 1924 unveiling, further plates were added to the facade in order to commemorate those who participated in World War II.
