Brighton, a suburb in Melbourne, is located 12 kilometers away from the city’s central business district. The City of Bayside serves as Brighton’s Local Government Area. As of the 2006, Brighton has a population of over 20,600. Dendy Street Beach is known for the 82 colorful bath boxes that run its length. The boxes are considered a trademark for the Brighton tourist industry. The bathing boxes are said to have existed as far back as the 1860s.

The suburb was established in 1840 and belongs to the federal division of Goldstein. At present, Brighton is home to some of the wealthiest residents in Melbourne. This is a result of the large developments of residential areas in the area. The suburb has two cinemas “The Brighton Bay” and the “Dendy Brighton”. Train access to Brighton is served by the Sandringham line.
