Brisbane City Hall

Hotels near Brisbane City Hall, Brisbane, Australia .

The Brisbane City hall is located next to King George Square and is near the streets of Ann and Adelaide. It is the seat of the City Council of Brisbane. The City hall was once considered as the tallest structure in the city. The building was designed by the firm Hall & Prentice. Four young architects also helped design the building. These were Bruce Dellit, Peter Kaad, Emil Sodersten and Noel Wilson.

The building has a 70-meter Clock Tower. The four face of the Tower are said to be the largest in Australia. The centre of the hall has an auditorium that was designed after the Pantheon in Rome, Italy. A most notable work of art found in the building is a sculptured pediment above the entrance of the Hall.

The bronze lion sculptures and statue of King George V in front is a great sight to behold. Another artwork is the sculpture based on the life of the pioneering family in Brisbane, the Petrie’s family. These works however have been displaced due to current renovations on the site.

Nearby hotels are the Marriott, Medina Executive, Sofitel Brisbane, Novotel Brisbane and others. Access by public transport is easy as the Hall is situated near other government offices.
