Brisbane Exhibition Ground

The Brisbane Exhibition Ground was once known as the RNA Showgrounds and also The Ekka Ground. It is a showground that was made during 1875 for EKKA which was the name for the Royal Queensland Show. The Ekka show is held for two weeks every August annually. Since the show only happens once a year, time the site is used for other displays and exhibitions.

The Ground has been used to welcome Queen Elizabeth and the Duke of Edinburgh, her husband, in 1954. Since then other events and sports have been held in the grounds. Sports like baseball were played during the late eighties and early nineties. Other sports that have been held in the venue are cricket, rugby, tennis, cycling and others.

The Exhibition Ground is surrounded by the Bowen Bridge Road, O’Connell Terrace, St. Pauls terrace and Gregory. The stands that are in the grounds can seat up to 20,526 people. It is visited by around 600,000 people during the Ekka shows which occur each August.
