The Brisbane Powerhouse is an art and cultural center located next to New Farm Park near the Brisbane River. The Powerhouse used to be a power station that provided electricity to the tramway network, as well as power loads to Yeerongpilly, Toowong and Ithaca. In later times, the house became used as a shelter for the homeless with them leaving their own works of art and scribbles and drawing on the walls.

The building has three sections which are the boiler section, the switch house, and the turbine room. The Powerhouse underwent several refurbishments and renovations before becoming the house of art that it is today.

It now has 425 seats for the Powerhouse Theatre, 200 seats for the Visy Theatre and has offered spaces for boardroom conventions, conferences, dining receptions, meetings, parties, theatre shows, plays, mini concerts and others. Complete amenities that are needed for the functions are also provided by the Powerhouse management.

The Powerhouse is accessible by transport bus, taxis and private cars. Hotel accommodations nearby are the Stamford Plaza, Rydges Hotel, The Marque, The Marriott, the Sebel and Citigate King George Square and others.
