The first thing to know when your train arrives is Bristol Temple Meads Railway Station is that this is the oldest and largest railway station in Bristol. It's the city most important hub for public transportation in which you can take buses or even a ferry to whichever part of the city. As busy as Bristol's airport, more than 7 milion people arrived and departed from Temple Meads Railway Station in 2007 alone. 8 of the 15 platforms available are for passengers, but you will notice some fun facts: platform 14 does not exist, platform 2 is not intended for passengers, and the numbering system gives odd numbers at eastern ends and even numbers for western ends.
The train station is open all day and all night and you can get tickets either from the ticket office counter, or from ticket machines. You can use the station's wifi while waiting for your train in the comfortable waiting rooms, you can shop for food or clothes in one of the many stores available in the station, or just sit down and enjoy your free time while watching others who don't have it!

There is much history to the railway station, starting from its name: the nearby Temple Church, constructed in the 12th century by the Knights Templar and bombed during World War II added "Temple" to the railway station's name, while "Meads" is an old english word for meadow, referring to the meadows of the River Avon. The original terminal dates back to 1839-41, but nowadays the terminal is home of the British Empire and Commonwealth Museum. The latter improvements made the railway station a great starting point to visit the city!
